A group of terms can be set as mandatory by clicking the “!” icon in the group title. This forces the results to contain at least one term from that group. Marking several groups as mandatory forces at least one representative term from each.

 

In addition, Socrates searches for documents that contain at least one term from each mandatory group.

Terms of regular, i.e. non-mandatory groups, are only optional in the search, as well as in the scoring of the results.
